The Rivers

The River Cover is walking distance from Middleham House while the River Ure a few minute drive away, providing guests with wonderful walks and outings. You can find countless scenic spots for picnics and BBQ’s. Moreover, it is home to some exceptional fly fishing for trout and grayling.

As you breast the hill from the house you are exposed to the vast beauty of the area descending into the river valley and on a clear day the views are stunning. The rivers are more apparent in the winter and in the summer it is gentle with a wealth of bird life and flowers. Along the rivers you can admire beautiful bluebell woods, woodpeckers and tree creepers, Kingfishers flashing along the river, primroses, violets and wood anemones creating the prettiest rockery you have ever seen.

The River Ure leads to the Aysgarth Falls, a breathtaking triple flight of waterfalls which have drawn visitors time and time again. The falls are carved out by the River on its descent through Wensleydale.
